Many, if not all, creation myths start with a sea, either literal or symbolic, and then light appears and life begins. There is even an equivalent scientific explanation of how ultraviolet rays caused the water atoms to split and create an atmosphere so life could exist on land. Water and light are essential for life. This series of prints is his investigation into the visual intersection of fluid and light effects and the conversation created by this interaction and the landscapes or mindscapes that evolve.

Confusion breeds confusion. Having been brought up in a turbulent environment, my work aims to tackle themes of identity within a fragile sociopolitical landscape. Always striving to question my place within a cultural system that is both foreign and familiar. This feeling of the uncanny, the uncomfortable, is projected in my relentless attempt to question, deconstruct and reassemble existing social frameworks. This reconstruction usually takes the form of photography, video and installation art. But is always recreated from the mind’s eye of an eternally, cynical idealist.

Personas of Play

Stephanie Diamant

The artist behind Mixed Media by Steph, Stephanie Diamant, draws inspiration from her time in both NYC and Miami, creating works primarily with paint on canvas and employing inter-disciplinary techniques.

She experiments with portraying different translations of femininity through abstract forms and floral imagery. Her subject matter is derived from stories of her travels. The stories within her paintings are meant to suggest an evolution of relationships and feelings inspired by internal growth and redirected thought processes. Her mixed media technique is a play on her background in fashion, interior design, and her city lifestyle.

Simultaneously, Diamant imbues her infectious energy into all her work through her unique style and ultra modern mindset. Her work preserves feelings of lightness and freedom in a cynical world, while also offering the viewer a piece of that liberated emotion for themselves.

RED

“Red is a series with a very emotion-oriented approach. I often feel that by using red I celebrate my inner strength and power. Thus while painting, my hand is often guided (directed or controlled) by the color and not by me. In this series, I let go of control and I guess by doing so, I’m learning to surrender to the magic of life. My intention is to stir up the emotional world in everyone of us and evoke the importance of passion and liveliness.” -Evangelos Vangelatos
